Marines Develop High-Tech Banana Peel for Crowd Control

The U.S. Marine Corps reports the deployment of a new crowd-control weapon that promises to make riots much more slippery affairs.

Invented at Southwest Research Institute, the Marines’ new Mobility Denial System (MDS) is a non-hazardous chemical spray weapon that disperses a thick, slippery gel onto asphalt, concrete, wood, and even grass. The result is a lot of pratt falls for the rioters and spinning wheels for enemy vehicles.

The Marines need tools like MDS for their overseas missions to rescue U.S. personnel from anarchic urban environments, but if it works, MDS could have clear potential for civilian law enforcement agencies, not to mention Fox TV Shows like “American Funniest Police Videos.”
