Georgia Sheriff Adds 30 Hybrid Propane Patrol Vehicles

Force 911 has completed the installation of 30 hybrid propane fuel systems for Jackson County (Ga.) Sheriff's Department. The fuel conversions create a dual fuel system in each vehicle, allowing it to run on traditional gasoline or propane gas. The county was able to purchase the propane fuel systems using seized drug funds.

Officer Matt Lydic said a man driving a black Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor model turned on a police siren while driving behind him, authorities said. Lydic pulled over to the side of the road believing there was an emergency vehicle he couldn't see. The driver pulled up beside him and told him to slow down.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) deployed 40 hybrid vehicles to help green its fleet of patrol cars, bringing its number of hybrid vehicles to more than 100.
