Bell Helicopter Training Academy Launches Tactical Flight Officer Course

The two-part Bell Helicopter Tactical Flight Officer course includes an online academic session and resident hands-on training that presents officers with the "practical skills and active engagement needed for aerial mission success in a safe and controlled environment," according to a release.

NYPD Acquires Electric Chevy Volts

The New York Police Department added 50 Chevrolet Volts to its fleet as part of a fleet greening initiative by the city. The Volt will be the first electric vehicle used by the NYPD, which also uses electric scooters and golf carts. The vehicles are part of an effort to reduce air pollution, carbon emissions, and gasoline consumption.

Washington Agency Adds T3 for Downtown Patrol

The Bellevue (Wash.) Police Department has added a T3 Motion Law Enforcement vehicle to more effectively patrol the city's downtown core. The Bellevue Police Foundation donated the $13,166 to fund the purchase.

The Forsyth County (Ga.) Sheriff Department plans to replace its current fleet of 175 patrol vehicles with Chevrolet Caprice PPV patrol vehicles, according to a news release from General Motors.

N.J. Borough's Cops Protest Take-Home Vehicle Cutback

The borough council meeting in Manville, N.J., drew a crowd of police officers and firefighters who protested a resolution that would have limited take-home use of borough vehicles.

Maryland Transportation Authority Police Lose Take-Home Vehicles

The Maryland Transportation Authority (MdTA) Police Lodge 34 lost its bid to force state officials to provide them with take-home vehicles as part of an agreement made during Gov. Robert Ehrlich's administration, according to court documents.

Officer Russell A. George was traveling south on U.S. 165 around 2:50 a.m. Sunday. After striking a bicycle that was on the pavement in an inside lane, Officer George lost control of his vehicle, which began spinning and then veered off the right side of the highway.
