Boston Police Fire at Cruiser Thief

October 07, 2013  |

A South Boston man was held on $150,000 bail Monday after he allegedly stole an idling Boston Police cruiser and twice attempted to run down an officer.

Wilfredo Rodriguez, 37, has been arraigned on assault and battery with intent to murder and other charges stemming from the Friday incident, reports the Boston Herald.

Rodriguez was first spotted at 3:46 a.m. attempting to break into a car on Baxter Street. When police arrived, he sprinted away and circled back to the scene where he jumped into a cruiser and took off.

Officers opened fire on the vehicle and Rodriguez allegedly struck Officer Jen Grogan. Another officer was also treated for minor injuries.

He was cornered by police outside the JFK MBTA station and arrested, reports the Boston Herald.
