Fla. Deputy Suffers Brain Injury In Crash

September 12, 2013  |

A Broward (Fla.) Sheriff's deputy veered off Interstate 95 Wednesday, striking a tree and leaving him with critical brain injuries.

Family and co-workers kept a vigil by the side of Deputy Daniel Rivera Wednesday night at Broward Health North following a five-hour surgery, reports the Sun-Sentinel.

The crash happened south of Copans Road as the 10-year veteran headed to work. Rivera, 32, was attempting to exit I-95 at Atlantic Boulevard amid wet roadway conditions when the single-car crash occurred.
