A Peru (Ill.) Police dog died Saturday when the handler's vehicle was struck by another vehicle while responding to an armed robbery call.
Kali, a female Belgian Malinois, was ejected from the vehicle and fatally injured during the accident at 6:49 p.m. Officer Art Smith was heading north on Route 251 approaching 36th Street and Wenzel Road when another motorist struck the ride side of his cruiser.
Kali joined the department in the fall and was fully trained for narcotics detection, searching, and tracking, reports the News Tribune.

Second article I've read this morning where someone struck a patrol car and either the officer was killed or their partner! Sad day, poor Kali. Again...IDIOT DRIVER!

I trained with this handler in Michigan and remember him as a dedicated officer and know how devastated he must be. My thoughts are with you, Art, and your family.
