A Connecticut State Police trooper involved in an ugly, multi-vehicle crash survived with only minor injuries, leaving the hospital after receiving treatment.

Trooper Thomas Ehret, who is nearing the completion of his first year on the force, was driving northbound near exit 27 around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when police say his cruiser was rear-ended by another vehicle before being struck by a passing tractor trailer, reports the Connecticut Post.

"It was a nightmare," Lt. J. Paul Vance told the newspaper.
