Video: S.C. Man Fights with Officer, Steals Cruiser

May 20, 2011  |

Summerville (S.C.) Police have released dash-cam footage that shows a shoplifting suspect attacking an officer, shaking off a TASER, and stealing the officer's cruiser.

Arthur Lee Thompson Jr., 38, eventually crashed the officer's vehicle, when he plowed into a truck during the joyride that was captured on the officer's dash cam.

The May 13 incident began when Thompson allegedly stole a computer from a Walmart. After punching a store employee, Thompson fled in a Jeep. Officers pulled over the vehicle, after which Thompson ignored commands, advanced toward the officer, and began punching him.

He shook off a TASER, jumped into the patrol car and took off, weaving through traffic until he struck a truck making a left turn.
