Newark PD Will Add Video to 50 Patrol Cars

As early as June or July, the Newark (N.J.) Police Department will add dashboard video cameras to 50 of the department's 400 cruisers, NJ.com reports.
The department has been attempting to add the cameras for two years, but hasn't had the funds. Now, $400,000 will be spent on the initiative.
The cameras will be installed within the dashboard, rather than the mounted style used by many law enforcement agencies. Police Director Garry McCarthy said the mounted cameras pose an injury risk to officers in the event of a motor-vehicle accident.
