Harley-Davidson Closes Buell Division

Harley-Davidson will close its Buell subsidiary in East Troy, Wisc., which will result in the ceasing of production of the Buell Ulysses Police XB12XP motorcycle, BizTimes Daily reports.

Harley-Davidson will close its Buell subsidiary in East Troy, Wisc., which will result in the ceasing of production of the Buell Ulysses Police XB12XP motorcycle, BizTimes Daily reports.

Milwaukee-based Harley will reduce the 80 hourly production positions and about 100 salaried positions at Buell. Employment will end for a majority of Buell employees on Dec. 18.

The decision will result in the ceasing of production of the Ulysses bike, which was introduced in 2008 as a nimble "special duty" patrol vehicle based on the Buell's Ulysses adventure sportbike. The bike allows officers "to tackle roads too rough or narrow for confident travel in a car or on a traditional police motorcycle," according to the company at the time.
