Non-Students Suffer More Violence Than College Students

February 13, 2004  |

A new study indicates that college students were victimized by violent crime at a lower rate than non-students of the same age between 1995 and 2000.

Of 18 to 24 year olds included in the study, there were 68 violent victimizations per 1,000 students compared to 82 violent victimizations per 1,000 non-students. Of those, females were half as likely to be victims of violence.

The report, "Violent Victimization of College Students," from the Department of Justice is available on the Web at www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/abstract/wcs00.htm.
