The video shows a Fort Worth police officer open her car door and quickly draw her weapon. It's the end of a nine-mile, 70 mph pursuit through red lights and stop signs. The officer screams at the driver: "Raise your hands! Raise your hands!"

The suspect puts his hands behind his head and kneels. The officer knows nothing of the man, other than his capacity for high risk and bad judgment.

A small camera clipped to the officer's uniform lets everyone judge the outcome. The suspect is peacefully taken into custody, reports WFAA.

Chief Jeff Halstead wants his department to lead the way on body cam video. There are 145 cameras already in the field with a goal to add 500 more within the next year.

I can't possibly think of a reason why you owuldn't outfit officers with body cams, squad car cams, GPS devices and home monitoring videos that show off-duty activity 24/7. Your privacy and civil rights end once you take a government job.

Capt. Crunch @ 2/5/2014 9:34 AM

Mike, you have me worried.

GaLaw82nd @ 2/5/2014 1:33 PM

I pray to God that Mike is being sarcastic.

Too bad there were no Camera's for the Obamacare closed sessions. Or when Red Coat John Roberts "changed his mind" and declared Obamacare a "tax". If regular citizens are harassed day and night by Illegal Aliens, Congress, SC and the POTUS. How about the LEO's "Focus" on THEM FIRST! Who doesn't Insure Domestic Tranquility? Obama, AND Bush? Obama who helped kill Brian Terry with F&F and Bush who imprisoned Ramos & Campeon for doing their job of Insuring Domestic tranquility! There comes a point though, when Law Abiding people say Enough is Enough! Instead of "focus" on Citizens, how about the RULING ELITE? Who use Mob tactics? I'm sick of Double Standards. Laws that the RE don't have to follow like Insider trading and Bogus Healthcare that sucks! I can't sleep at night for all the bad in the world. But I bet Obama/Bush/NWO sleep real nice selling the USA out!

mike @ 2/6/2014 5:45 AM

Of course I'm being sarcastic! I have over 30 years of law enforcement experience and I can't imagine starting as a new recruit and having to work 30 more years in this restrictive environment.

Brian @ 2/6/2014 8:18 AM

What you call a restrictive environment others would call it cleaning up. My guess is the body cams will vindicate officers actions more than hurt just like car cams have. The videos will help adminitrators see just how ugly things can get in the field for officers and just how grey things really are- it's not always black and white.

Capt. Crunch @ 2/6/2014 11:31 AM

I was happy to read Mike's answer and now Brian, you have me worried, who in their right would want to live in a fish bowl?

Mags @ 2/9/2014 2:24 AM

Don't worry, they'll be gone in a couple of years and replaced with drones
