FBI Seizes Online Narcotics Black Market

October 02, 2013  |

The FBI has shut down the Silk Road online black market for drugs and charged site operator Ross Ulbricht with engaging in a "massive money-laundering" operation and of trying to arrange a murder-for-hire.

Ulbricht was arrested after he attempted to solicit a Silk Road user to murder another user who had threatened to release the identities of thousands of users, reports the New York Times.

The Silk Road marketplace is available throgh Tor, a popular tool for maintaining anonymity online. Bitcoin, a virtual currency, is used for transactions.
