L.A. Times: Eliminating Red-Light Cameras Makes Sense
June 09, 2011
|
Following the Los Angeles Police Commission's decision to get rid of red-light cameras in the city, the Los Angeles Times published an editorial endorsing the move because "the evidence in favor of the cameras isn't compelling enough to urge the City Council to keep them running."
The Los Angeles Police Department strongly supports the cameras as a public safety enhancement. The city has seen a 62% drop in red-light-related collisions at the intersections with cameras, compared with a 22% drop citywide during the same period, according to the LAPD.
