Police have released additional information, including a dash-cam image, about the suspect who fatally shot Riverside (Calif.) Police Officer Ryan Bonaminio during a foot pursuit on Sunday.

The suspected shooter has been identified by the Riverside PD's Robbery Homicide Unit as a black male, mid-30s to mid-40s in age, 6'1"-6'2" tall, slender build and possible facial hair.

The suspect was last seen wearing dark clothing and a light colored baseball cap. He is believed to be armed with a handgun. The department released an image (above) recovered from Officer Bonaminio's dashboard video camera.

Additionally, the department said the suspect's vehicle was a stolen rental big rig that was recovered a few miles from the crime scene.

The department continues to investigate the shooting of Officer Bonaminio, a four-year veteran of the department and a U.S. Army veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Rsponding to a hit-and-run call at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, Officer Bonaminio attempted to pull over a semi-truck believed to be involved in the accident, which failed to yield to the officer's lights and siren.

After pulling over in front of Fairmount Park, the driver fled on foot into the park, and Officer Bonaminio pursued him on foot. Backup officers arrived to find Officer Bonaminio laying on the ground with a gunshot injury.
