State Trooper Dies from Wasp Sting

August 23, 2007
Trooper Jack P. Holland was conducting salvage inspections at the Seville CDL Facility in Medina County. After returning to his desk at approximately 1 p.m., he was stung by a yellowjacket. He had a severe reaction and was transported by Westfield EMS to the Lodi Emergency room at 1:13 p.m. where he was pronounced dead at approximately 2:30 p.m.

White Supremacist Gang Member Captured Following Murder of Utah Corrections Officer

A heavily tattooed neo-Nazi inmate briefly escaped custody yesterday following the murder of his guard. Authorities say 27-year-old Curtis Michael Allgier overpowered his 60-year-old guard during a medical exam at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, gained control of the guard’s firearm, and shot the corrections officer in the head. The officer, Stephen Anderson, died at the scene.

Three-Year Drug Probe Results in 20 Indictments

Concluding a three-year drug probe operation by the Drug Enforcement Administration's Southeastern Massachusetts Gang Force, 20 members and associates of a savvy street gang were indicted on federal and state charges. The members were indicted for selling crack cocaine.

Fugitive's Remains Found Nine Years After Escape

Law enforcement officers solved the question to the pending riddle—Where did Jason McVean go?—nine years after the fugitive and two partners reportedly stole a truck, shot and killed Cortez (Colo.) Police Officer Dale Claxton, and then vanished. Based upon witness accounts of the 1998 murder, it is believed McVean pulled the trigger.

Sheriff to Make Bid for Vacated House Seat

Sheriff Matt Lori, a 30-year law enforcement veteran, has decided to make a campaign run for the Republican nomination for the Michigan seat, which will be vacated by incumbent Rick Shaffer due to term limits. Lori currently serves as a sheriff in St. Joseph County.
