DHS Authorizes First National Certification of a SWAT Training Center

The Government Training Institute in Boise, Idaho, is the first nationally certified SWAT team training system in the United States. This course is now pre-approved to receive U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) grant funds, allowing state and local law enforcement agencies to attend the training using DHS grant monies to pay for tuition, overtime, meals, lodging, and associated backfill costs.

Perceived Gang Violence Declines

According to a National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), victims perceived perpetrators to be gang members in about 6 percent of violent victimizations between 1998 and 2003. That’s down from 9 percent between 1993 and 1996.

Congress Passes Bill to Limit Gun Industry Liability

October 20, 2005
Bill S. 397, if signed into law by President Bush, would prohibit lawsuits against the firearms industry for damages resulting from the unlawful use of a firearm or ammunition. The House passed the bill with a vote of 283-144. The Senate passed the bill in July.
