Russia has shown its solidarity with the people of France in an unusual way - by donating a new puppy to carry on the memory of Diesel, the police dog killed by a suicide bomber on Wednesday, reports the Daily Mail.

The little puppy, called Dobrynia, has been sent to Paris by the Russian government to help "in the fight against terrorism."

It will be trained up to continue the vital work that Diesel, a seven-year-old Belgian shepherd, was doing before she was killed in the raid on the apartment block in Saint-Denis, where Paris massacre mastermind Abdelhamid Abaaoud was hiding out.

The Russian Interior Ministry, which shared pictures of Dobrynia on the social network site, has written to France explaining the gift. In the letter, Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev said: "I ask you to accept from Russian's police dog handlers this shepherd puppy, who will be able to take his place in the ranks of Diesel, your dog who died doing his duty."

You got to give to the Russians, Syria, Middle East, Palling up with Europe, they are doing many things that WE (U.S.) should be doing and making us look bad!. Good move Russia. Others are looking at your country as a friend more then the U.S.

While possibly a nice gesture by Russia it likely will not work out. I say possibly as who knows what the real motivation is for Russia. That said, the chances of this puppy growing up and becoming a replacement LE or military K9 are not really all that great. May not have the temper, hunt or prey drive, or ability to be a working dog. I've tested as many as 5-10 dogs being sold by vendors for LE dogs before finding one that I believe could pass our training.

During my sometimes too long career, I have met dog handlers from around the world. Far and away they are some of the best people you would ever want to meet, regardless of nationality. Way to go!!!

You understand this is simply a ploy to drive up public opinion of Russia in France....perhaps they can get France to vote down the economic sanctions imposed after they started a war in Ukraine.
Talk about no clue on how the world works:
--1 Police Dog Puppy (I will admit very cute)...gets kudos from this board.
--Starting a war where thousands are dead; supporting the Syrian regime, which is the only thing standing between the US and ISIS...forgotten about by the LEO on this board.
You realize that if Russia wasn't backing the Syrian government, NATO would be Weapons Free on ISIS...because we would be fighting with the Syrian Opposition.

If the Russians send a kitten and Labrador puppy, Putin might end up as the next national President of the PBA!!
