Man With Knife, Gun Shuts Down CO Police Headquarters

October 05, 2015  |

Police in Arvada, CO, surrounded their own headquarters on Friday after a man walked into the lobby with a knife and a gun. The man finally surrendered more than three hours later, reports CBS Denver.

Police said the man came into the headquarters at 6:18 with a knife and a gun. The man started making suicidal threats and that’s when police evacuated and then surrounded the building.

The man surrendered to officers at 9:40 p.m. Friday. He was unharmed.

From the limited information given: Man with knife and gun enters PD HQ and makes suicidal gestures. Result: Building is evacuated. Man ultimately gives up. Perhaps there is more to this, but were I in charge, the building would not be evacuated. All officers would be present to either Tase him, Stun him or 'en masse" incapacitate him via shotgun bags, or at worst, use deadly force if his gestures were more threatening than suicidal. More details are needed here.
