Oregon State Police say 13 people were killed and 20 others wounded when a single gunman opened fire on the campus of Umpqua Community College this morning. Several sources, including Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin, say the shooter, 20, is one of the dead.

A school official said the attack occurred at Snyder Hall. The first 911 call came at 10:38 a.m. Oregon State Police say the shooter was engaged by law enforcement, but it is not known if he was killed by officers or killed himself.

Nearby residents told OregonLive that 20 ambulances and 75 police cars, including police officials in their private vehicles, responded.

Police said in a release that staff and family were being taken by bus to the Douglas County Fairgrounds to meet family. Emergency personnel are urging the public to avoid the area as it could hamper emergency efforts.

The FBI is sending agents and specialty personnel from its offices in Medford, Eugene, Salem and Portland to assist with the active shooter investigation in Roseburg, says agency spokeswoman Beth Anne Steele.

At least 100 officers are reportedly on the scene.
