Man's Gun Tattoo Triggers Maine Police Callout

March 20, 2014  |

Michael Smith went outside shirtless after being awakened Tuesday morning, yelling at a tree removal company to get off his Norridgewock, Maine, property.

The workers thought they saw a gun in his waistband and called police.

Smith, who’d gone back to bed, was awakened again minutes later — this time by Maine State Police at his front door, backed up by a group of troopers with assault rifles in his driveway. They were asking him via a megaphone to come out of his house.

Smith did have a gun. It was tattooed on his stomach.

It was all just a misunderstanding, both Smith and police told the Morning Sentinel.

This is a stupid waist of police manpower. There was no mention that he used a gun or made a verbal threat to use a gun. So what if he had a real gun in his waistband when he went out to confront the workers? This is still America and he has every legal right to possess one.

Not in Massachusetts you don't. You got to have a permit just to have one in your house. Massachusetts gun laws are ridiculous and obsurd. The law makers believe stricter gun laws apply to criminals.... The states government is full of morons.

Yes, gawoods, it was a waste of police manpower. Sometimes the dispatcher taking the call needs to pin down exactly what the saw. Secondly, it is absolutely irresponsible to have a gun tattooed on your belt line or anywhere you plan to expose it. Several mistakes here, the caller being stupid, the dispatcher not asking enough, and the idiot with the tattoo of a gun on his waistband.....he may have gotten mistaken by the first cop and been a dead idiot.

Funny the Gun grabbers create mass hysteria, and demonize guns. But Law Breakers and Illegal Aliens get a free pass? How many people did Fast & Furious kill? How many people have Obama & Holder looked the other way and let innocent people die? How many laws has Obama broken since in office? That's Criminal activity! Obama, Bush and the Clinton's have been to Bilderberg MEETINGS. This act is ILLEGAL! And they get LEO protection, making deals behind closed doors, with Bankers and other Governments. Instead of in full view of the public eye. Some guy with a Gun tattoo is no threat to anyone's freedom. I'm sure Mane is a Liberals dream! Like Mass, they let Illegal Aliens kill Americans, and give AI drunk drivers a free pass. But US Citizens are treated like second class citizens! The REAL EVIL goes on behind closed doors, not some normal person minding their own business in public view.

I have a niece who had a large handgun tattooed on her bicep. She didn't know what it was exactly. I told here it was a British Webley-Fosbery .455, the worlds only semi-automatic revolver. Although I didn't care for the tattoo itself I told her I did support her right to bare arms.

What kind of Police Department/Sheriff's Dept. does this crap? No wonder people think L.E.O's. are morons these days. Hiring computer nerds who have no, zero common sense what-so-ever. I saw this coming the last 5 years of my career. Dispatching State Police with a style of a SWAT Team to his house. What a bunch of klowns. Norridgewock, Somerset County, Maine what a Looney Tunes town it must be..

Not the smartest tattoo to get. It may well prove to be a fatal mistake one day.

So just by having a Gun in your waste band, and not even in a combative posture, would get you killed by a Police Officer sworn to not only defend the Constitution, but the People that pay for your miserable salaries to begin with? Here is an idea, if you see a Gun in someones wasteband, have the common sense to asses the situation and realize it is just that, in his wasteband. You can tell the Cops that have served, and seen combat, versus the Cops that watch Bourne Identity too much.

Maybe against my better judgment, but I agree with "Anonymous". Lets wake up people, there is a dangerous shift in our thinking, "...can't see the forest for the trees"
