Gunman Holding Ga. Firefighters Killed

April 10, 2013  |

A Gwinnett County (Ga.) Police SWAT team shot and killed a man who had taken five firefighters hostage earlier Wednesday.

The firefighters had responded to a medical call at the home of a man who took them captive at gunpoint. The suspect released one of the firefighters to move a truck, and held the others for several hours, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The man, whose home had been bank-owned since November, had demanded his power and cable be turned back on at the home in the Suwanee home about 35 miles northeast of Atlanta. The hostages were released with only minor injuries.

Even firemen can have heros.

This guy apparently wanted an easy way out of this world, but was too gutless to do it himself. P.O.S.

Mark @ 4/10/2013 6:05 PM

God made policemen so that firemen could have heroes too.

I hope the gunman had prepared a nice big dinner for the firefighters, along with ready made beds with clean sheets and fluffy pillows.

it is sad he died so easy, burning to death would have been a proper DSAF

The world we've created has become a crazy place. And as a police officer employed by a fire department I'll remind Rick and Mark that when the chips are down for the men in blue, quite often the guys on the BRT are the ones they count on. We're all in the same game...Stay safe.

Love the brotherly rivalry with the hose draggers. They took good care of me when I was shot in a gun battle with a couple dirt bags. Funny though, had to get their minds right. First medic on the scene asked 'who's hurt the worst?' Two purps were on the ground, I was still standing. I replied loudly, 'I am g**-dammit.' They quickly attended to me! They are my brothers to the end.

Working in Law Enforcement we have to look out for each other and that includes the Firefighters and paramedics. It's ruff out there. Be safe and be blessed!!!!!!!!
