Police Sniper Ends Ind. Standoff, Saves Child

March 21, 2013  |

A Fort Wayne (Ind.) Police sniper ended a stand-off Wednesday afternoon that began when a suspect pulled a woman off a city bus, killed her, and took a 3-year-old hostage.

The Fort Wayne PD's Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team responded to a residence on Holton Avenue following the fatal shooting of Jacqueline Bouvier Hardy, 49. Police believe Kenneth Knight, 45, fatally shot his ex-girlfriend, who had a protective order against him.

Emergency Services Team operators were authorized to take out Knight, after the suspect barricaded himself in the home with a 3-year-old who wasn't related to him or Hardy, reports the News-Sentinel.

Good shot snipers. Sorry to hear about the 3 year olds mom. May she rest in peace

Jenann @ 3/22/2013 6:18 AM

It said the child was NOT related to the victim (Hardy) or to the shooter (Knight). His poor mother had no involvement, but lost her child because of Knight's stupidity and cruelty! My heart truely goes out to her! Victim Hardy unfortunately lost her life, and I sincerely hope she had no "little ones" at home - my sympathy goes out to her family also.

Nice shot! Saved the girl and also saved the taxpayers a boat-load of money.

Nichole @ 3/25/2013 3:30 AM

Jenann... the child wasn't harmed. Read the full story.

From one sniper to another great job!
