SWAT officers with the Roy (Utah) Police Department ended a hostage standoff late Tuesday by sending a series of text messages to the suspect using another man's cell phone.
Officers responded to a home near 5300 South and 3400 West about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, after the suspect texted 911 dispatchers. After the hostage taker surrendered, officers observed a man communicating via text message with the purported victim who had barricaded himself in the home.
He surrendered after officers used the man's phone to communicate with the barricaded man, reports the Salt Lake Tribune.
