N.J. Cop Surrenders After Firing at Pa. Officers

June 18, 2012  |

An off-duty Clifton (N.J.) PD police officer surrendered to a negotiator after a 10-hour standoff in which he fired at responding patrol and SWAT officers.

Clifton PD's Officer Richard Klementovich, 42, had barricaded himself inside the Doylestown, Pa., home of his estranged wife. Shortly after officers responded to the Bittersweet Drive home, Klementovich began firing. Rounds struck two police cruisers and a SWAT vehicle. One officer was wounded by shrapnel from a round that hit a curb, reports NJ.com.

At 11:45 p.m. Sunday, Klementovich surrendered to a negotiator, ending the tense standoff during which neighbors were told not to leave their homes.
