N.C. Police Robots Help End Stand-off with Naked Man

Greensboro (N.C.) Police officers used a pair of tactical robots Tuesday to help end a nearly daylong stand-off with a barricaded naked man at a Lindley Park home.

The incident began at 5:07 a.m., when a neighbor called 911 to report hearing a man "calling out to God" while sitting on his porch with a gun. When officers arrived, the man fired several shots at officers and returned inside his home at 421 Westdale Place. The man, later identified as 41-year-old Jimmy Albert Burleson, was naked, reports the News & Record.

Later in the day, officers with the Greensboro bomb squad used a pair of tactical robots to blow the door off the home, reports WFMY. A robot equipped with an audio/video link entered the house and allowed officers to communicate with Burleson.

Other attempts to get Burleson out of the home, including the use of tear gas, were unsuccessful.

At about 7:40 p.m., the unclothed man walked onto the porch and sat in his rocking chair. A police dog grabbed the man, who was able to escape and run back inside the residence. The High Point Special Response Team ran inside and tackled the man, who resisted arrest.
