Suicidal Ariz. Couple Planned to Kill SRT Deputies

A suicidal couple who were killed in a house explosion last month had planned to kill Yuma County (Ariz.) Sheriff's deputies as they entered their house, reports the Yuma Sun.

Investigators said Jesse Lee Firestone, 65, and his wife Diedre Firestone, 45, planned to detonate bombs to kill members of the Yuma sheriff's Special Response Team (SRT) as they entered the house. The couple left elaborate plans in writing and in video in a blast-protected area of the home.

In one video posted by the Yuma Sun, Jessee Firestone shows a shrine called the "Church of Death" with pictures of the American flag and Osama bin Laden.

I'm surprised neither here on Policemag nor the Yuma Sun called these two terrorists. They had IEDs, they tried to kill officers and eventually killed themselves. So what is the difference between say: these two and Al Qaeda? Skin color?

This idiot was from Clovis NM. Was an idiot then. Was a crop duster and as usual probably broke nevery flying rule thatbthere was. Thank GOD no public safety officers or first responders were seriuously injured.

Hey Tim From LA...You are absolutly right my friend. If these people aren't terrorists then what the heck are they? Other than idiots that is.

Actually, I'd go with the latter with definition for what they were...nothing in the article suggests that any of their actions were directly politically motivated or intended to cause a political result. Seems more like a Mickey and Mallory Knox situation in which they just wanted attention for being cuckoo for cocoa puffs, as would be seen by the "Church of Death" sign and the anathematic elements (picture of bin laden in conjunction with the American flag). Too be honest, I think they just wanted us to remember that with all the rest of the chaos in the world, we even have our own homegrown version of crazy...

These people definately hatched an evil plan, but to call them terrorists would be irresponsible jouralism. Until their motivation can be linked to a terrorist cell, to extreme religious beliefs or to extreme political beliefs, they should be called criminals. They may have been idiots and held Bin Laden in high regard while they planned their deeds, but that doesn't qualify them to be terrorists.

Truly wonder if these 2 idiots could even make firecrackers? HA HA HA
