December 01, 2011

Vallejo (Calif.) Police Officer Jim Capoot was not your average cop, and that's what endeared him to many in the community. On Wednesday, 4,000 people—friends, colleagues and Vallejo residents who had never met him—turned out for his funeral, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
Capoot, 45, who spent 19 years as a Vallejo police officer, was shot and killed Nov. 17 while chasing a bank robbery suspect. A 37-year-old parolee, Henry Alfred Smith Jr. of Fairfield, has been arrested and charged with murder.
