U.S. Supreme Court Hears SWAT Texting Case

U.S. Supreme Court justices began discussing the merits of the firing of a California SWAT sergeant for receiving sexually explicit text messages on his department-issued pager, the New York Times reports.

The court will rule on whether Sgt. Jeff Quon's Fourth Amendment rights were violated when a supervisor viewed the messages and determined to terminate him.

Quon's case, which began on Monday with oral arguments, illustrates the dilemma of whether police officers can keep their public employers from searching their records and files.
