Anaheim police Sgt. Tim Schmidt said the fatal gunfight took place shortly after midnight as officers attempted to pull over the suspect as he fled east on the 91 Freeway. The man ran into traffic near Brookhurst Street, hitting other vehicles and disabling his own car, Schmidt said.
The suspect then exited his vehicle, armed with a handgun, Schmidt said. Taking cover behind other cars, the suspect exchanged gunfire with at least two officers and was shot, Schmidt said.
