Some neighborhoods in Cincinnati and its surrounds are reporting a spike in violent crime since temperatures rose earlier this week.

Five shootings were reported in the area on Tuesday alone, with one being fatal.

Local police officers say they are used to the summer trend caused by an increase in outdoor gatherings and people being agitated because of uncomfortably high temperatures.

“We see all calls, but in the summer there’s more traffic, more parties, more activities and more population in town,” Covington (Ky.) Police Lt. Col. Mike Kraft told a Cincinnati television reporter.
