A new emergency notification system will help law enforcement agencies spread information about missing children via phone or Web.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and Intrado Inc. will work together to facilitate deployment of Intrado's IntelliCast Target Notification. It can be used to send a message about a missing child to thousands of residents in a geographic area. The system can be activated by public safety officials via any phone or through a secure Website. It can deliver messages that include a complete physical description of the missing child, the date and time of disappearance, location last seen, and a number to call with tips.

The system can be used in conjunction with the AMBER Alert system.

The Pocatello (Idaho) Police De-partment recently used IntelliCast Target Notification to help locate a child just 15 minutes after a telephone notification.

IntelliCast Target Notification is also used to notify residents of emer-gency situations, such as flash floods, forest fires, and life-threatening crimi-nal activity. For more information, visit www.missingkids.com and www.intrado.com/NCMEC
