The Promi-Check is a new low-cost solution for field screening of BAC. While it is not designed for evidentiary disposition, it can be used as an investigative tool to confirm alcohol consumption. It functions under the principle that blood alcohol is dissipated through the lungs. A deep breath sample is taken from the test subject by blowing through a sterile mouthpiece. An audible signal on the device indicates when a good sample is complete. The backlit LCD displays the corresponding BAC in just seconds. This self-calibrating AAA battery-powered unit is priced under $120 and comes with 12 mouthpieces and a soft case.
