Philips Electronics’ HeartStart FRx Automated External Defibrillator recently received FDA clearance for its improved design. The rugged AED still gives operators step-by-step instructions for treating sudden cardiac arrest. Now, the device can also handle wireless data transfer to a palmOne PDA to enhance useability. Also new are preconnected smart pads that can be used to treat all patients. When treating an infant or child, a special key can be pressed to adjust energy and provide special instructions for pad placement and CPR procedures tailored to smaller victims.
