Dallas Police Find 2,000 Case Files in Detective's Garage

The Dallas Police Department is now sorting through sheaves of paperwork from the files of about 2,000 family violence cases that were found in a detective's garage, DallasNews.com reports.

The National Geographic Channel will debut on Wednesday "Alaska State Troopers," a reality series that "captures a mixture of raw nature and criminal activity throughout the Alaskan wilderness and its remote villages," according to the show website.

Las Vegas Officer Killed, Partner Seriously Injured in One-Car Accident

A Las Vegas Metro Police officer has died following a car accident Wednesday night. Officer Milburn "Millie" Beitel died at UMC following surgery. The other officer remains at UMC in serious but stable condition.

Streamlight Warns LE Customers Against Using Off-Brand Batteries

Streamlight today issued another warning about purchasing and using inferior quality lithium 123A batteries with its flashlight products or other products. Use of off-brand lithium batteries may present a risk of leakage, fire, explosion or serious personal injury, company officials said.

Feds Strip Sheriff Arpaio of Immigration Powers

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said he would continue his "crime suppression" sweeps to enforce immigration laws in Arizona, after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security stripped him of powers to arrest illegals based solely on their immigration status, the East Valley Tribune reports.

The California city of South Gate has paid out $18 million to a group of 16 officers who said they faced racially motivated discrimination as a result of their association with a Latino police official who left the department in 2002, the Los Angeles Times reports.
