The Half Moon Bay City Council voted Saturday to shut down its police department and contract out its law enforcement services to the San Mateo Sheriff's Department. The move is expected to save the cash-strapped city $509,000.

Three Chicago Officers Stripped of Powers for On-Duty Sex

The initial two officers noticed the woman on Wednesday walking and crying. The officers apparently gave her a ride in their marked Chevy Tahoe SUV, and she reported having sex with one in the passenger seat. The three officers apparently went into the woman's apartment, played strip poker, and had sex with the woman.

Tennessee Cop's Suspected Killer Identified

Jesse Mathews, who is wanted in Colorado on robbery warrants, is suspected of fatally shooting Sgt. Timothy Chapin and wounding Officer Lorin Johnston during a pursuit after an armed robbery at the U.S. Money Shops on Saturday.

Tenn. Sgt. Killed In Gunfight With Prison Escapee Wearing Kevlar Vest

Sgt. James Timothy Chapin, a 26-year veteran, was shot in the head during a foot pursuit with the suspect, whose Kevlar vest protected him from numerous police bullets. A bullet from the suspect struck a second officer, Lorin Johnston, in his ballistic vest.

Traffic Deaths Fall to 60-Year Low

Law enforcement agencies in states with the steepest declines attributed the improvement, in part, to increased enforcement of speeding, drunk driving and seat-belt violations. Other factors include improved vehicle manufacturing, dual-side airbags, frangible power poles that sheer off at the bottom, and improved paramedic response.
