A Johnson City man was arrested Thursday afternoon after he ran over a Carter County (Tenn.) Sheriff's deputy with his car, prompting a police chase from Carter County to Washington County, police said.

A 28-year-old man was sentenced on Thursday to 45 years to life in prison for the 2011 killing of a veteran police officer during a botched predawn robbery in Brooklyn. It was the maximum allowable sentence.

Fla. Deputy Killed at Traffic Stop

Sgt. Gary Morales, 35, was shot Thursday morning shortly after making the stop at 9:28 a.m. Deputies had stopped a vehicle just south of Fort Pierce in an unincorporated area.

2 Calif. Cops Killed Investigating Sex Crime

Sgt. Loren Baker and Det. Elizabeth Butler were found dead outside the home of Jeremy Goulet, 35. Goulet was shot and killed on Doyle Street at about 3:30 p.m. after firing at officers who were conducting a search of the area.

FEMA: Hash Oil Extraction Causing Explosions
