After a teen allegedly rammed a patrol car Wednesday, he led officers on a two-hour chase across a southern Wake County, N.C.,  golf course that involved four law enforcement agencies, a bloodhound named Ruby, a helicopter and, finally, a squadron of golf carts.

A former part-time Pennsylvania police officer has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for pulling over a woman while he was off duty - just to give her his phone number. Steven Klinger, 32, was charged with official oppression, or acting outside his authority as an officer.

Off-Duty Chicago Officer Dies After Being Shot in Apparent Attempted Robbery

A veteran Chicago police officer who was shot Wednesday morning in an apparent robbery gone bad on the city's West Side died early Thursday morning from his wounds, police said. A woman who was sitting in the off-duty officer's sport-utility vehicle during the shooting was dead on the scene.

A multi-agency perimeter was set up around the Indian Springs subdivision, and officers spent more than an hour combing the neighborhoods and stopping cars before they arrested a "person of interest" in the slaying of the 39-year-old deputy in Smoaks, S.C., early that morning.

The state of Texas defied an international court and executed Jose Ernesto Medellin late Tuesday after the U.S. Supreme Court denied a stay of execution for the killer in the 1993 Houston gang rape-murders of two teenage girls.

Bioweapons Scientist Reportedly Commits Suicide as Federal Grand Jury Prepared to Indict Him on Anthrax Terrorism Charges

A federal grand jury was preparing to indict a Maryland bioweapons expert for his role in the 2001 anthrax attacks that killed five people and terrorized the country, according to two sources familiar with the investigation.

Prosecutors were considering whether to seek the death penalty against Bruce E. Ivins, 62, who worked at an elite U.S. Army bioweapons laboratory in Fort Detrick. Ivins died Tuesday in an apparent suicide.

Illinois Tells 'Meth Coffee': No Sale
