A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy will face a voluntary manslaughter charge for a February 2016 shooting that left 26-year-old Francisco Garcia dead, according to ABC News.

Deputy Luke Liu reportedly was checking on a car that was reported stolen when he got into a confrontation with the driver, who refused to exit the vehicle.

At the time of the incident, Lieutenant Eddie Hernandez with the LASD Homicide Bureau said, "The driver actually turns the car on, the deputy is struck by the vehicle and at this point the deputy felt a threat to his life and that's why he fired."

Earlier this year, the county claims board recommended a settlement of $1.75 million with Garcia's family.
