Officers got out of their squad car to question the man, who exited his vehicle and fled on foot. The officers gave chase.

At one point the fleeing subject turned and fired at the pursuing officers.

One officer was hit in the vest. The unidentified officer reportedly returned fire, striking the gunman in the throat.

The injured officer and the subject were subsequently transported to nearby hospitals.

The subject was listed in critical condition.

The officer was treated and released and is expected to be okay.
