NFL Player Protesting Police During Anthem Goes on "Eye-Opening" Ride-Along

A defensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys, who has been kneeling to protest law enforcement use of force on minorities, went on a ride-along earlier this week with a local officer.

Cowboys defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford took part in a ride-along with the Grand Prairie (TX) Police Department on Tuesday, Sportsday reports.

Crawford said the experience was "eye-opening." He saw the officer conduct community outreach with local youth as well as perform a felony traffic stop with other officers.

Crawford also took part in a police briefing and talked to more officers on "why they chose to be police and we talked about our issues."

Crawford said there's a big difference in hearing about a police call to an active scene versus actually being involved in responding.

"When you're actually in the situation and they call you to a certain situation and you have to go, I'm like, 'Wait, wait, wait. Where are we going? I'm not going to stop a fight right now. I'm in the car,'" Crawford said. "It's more real life when you have to go into those situations and everybody is walking around you saying, 'F the police,' and stuff like that. You know me, I walk into a restaurant nervous. In that situation, I was definitely nervous. I was sitting back, I felt the way they feel, I guess."

Most people don't have a clue what the officers face or have to put up with. This player got a small taste, one day as an observer. Career officers respond to thousands of calls many of which involve high risk.

Too little.......too late.

Where's the main stream media coverage of this? Why isn't this being publicized more to dismiss the false narrative that has been spun for the past several years? One guy? Meanwhile, they played up their big "Salute to Service" program yesterday while NFL players still kneel... As a Vet who used to watch NFL games, I spent my day doing other things...

I would like to see some of these vocal players volunteer for a reserve force where they get more involved than merely being a ride along and observing. That would likely be a true eye opener for these guys who don't have a clue.

I have been a LEO for almost 43 years. I have said that ALL US Congressman and Senators should have to ride with different officers on all 3 shifts and see what really goes on. This should be a requirement for three months. The world would be different. From Border Cities to large Metropolitan Cities.

Sounds like he got a TINY dose of REALITY outside his sheltered multi million dollar SJW life.... Now TYRONE, do that every day and YOU be the guy that rushes into the danger, that's a whole other level!

His "protests" based on RACIST IGNORANCE have caused allot of damage in community relationships instead of bringing people together solving crime in their communities.

The IGNORANT RACIST NFL "protests" need to stop and be replaced with FACTS.

The devisive Race Baiting ignorance is destroying our country!

Charles Pyatt @ 11/24/2018 8:16 AM

Tyrone, another ignorant racist that was shown the truth... AFTER he has caused significant community and social damage.

ALL of the "kneelers" & so called social injustice warriors should suit up & ride along during the most dangerous shift, night shift & go into the ghettos, during active shooter situations & domestic violence situations or child protective service extractions or drug warrant searches where the potential for violence is high so they can see for themselves what its really about instead of just flapping their gums about something know nothing about & not just stay in the car & watch!

Rscalzo @ 12/1/2018 8:40 AM

Have to give him credit for looking into the truth. Whe not perfect doing the job is far from what aim is happening.

Brian Miller @ 12/8/2018 7:45 PM

Like Rscalzo said, Tyrone had enough integrity to check the other side. Two other protesters, Jarrett Maupin in Arizona and Quanell X in Texas, also went through simulated police training to see what it was like. They also came away with a different point of view, and both of them were honest enough to say so.

It's taking time, but people are seeing the truth. I worked most of my 33-year career in the inner city. Most people wanted us there and to be aggressive against criminals. So hang in there, guys and gals. Do the best you can. Don't quit. It's not too late. Truth will prevail.

CoachBo @ 12/10/2018 8:32 AM

Now, multiply that by a exponent of X, considering the size of the city and part of town an officer patrols, and you have what happens during an officer's shift every single day and sometimes in double digits times each day...and every week and year over 20+ years. But, an minuscule percentage of these runs ever end up making any kind of news worthy status.
