VIDEO: Off-Duty Rookie Fired Over Confrontation with Uniformed Officer

A rookie officer with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police has been fired over a confrontation with a uniformed officer with the Swissvale (PA) Police Department.

A witness caught the incident on cell phone video as 25-year-old Sidney Bates—who had just been sworn in with the Pittsburgh police in May—got into a dispute with an officer in the street.

Bates' attorney said that the firing occurred without the officer ever having a conversation with command staff.

Bates will file a grievance against the city to try to get his job back, according to WPXI-TV News.

It’s sad that so many younger or rookie officers who have not put in the time have no respect for senior officers as they did in the past, the know more, do more, and feel they are better, well that is until they get themselves in a bind or jam and need some help, if this rookie did something wrong he brought it upon himself, the Chief has the final say he does not need to talk to anyone else

Sounds like the badge went straight to his head and caused him to think that he was beyond reproach.
