Former NYPD Officer Sues Department Over Dismissal

A former NYPD cop—who was reportedly dismissed from his position for shooting his girlfriend— says in a newly filed lawsuit that it was she who attacked him and that the department ignored his own claims of being the victim of domestic violence.

A former NYPD cop—who was reportedly dismissed from his position for shooting his girlfriend—says in a newly filed lawsuit that it was she who attacked him and that the department ignored his own claims of being the victim of domestic violence.

Jose Guerrero was fired by the department and charged with reckless endangerment after the mother of his child—Yahayra Feliz—was shot in the neck during a December 2015 domestic violence incident in Guerrero's Yonkers apartment, according to the New York Post.

But Guerrero insists that Feliz broke into his home and struck him before being shot in the neck—it is unclear from reports who fired the shot.

Guerrero was suspended and eventually fired by the NYPD, despite it never being conclusively proven whether he was the one who pulled the trigger on his Glock, the suit claims.

The suit names the City of New York, NYPD Police Commissioner James O’Neill, and Yonkers Police Department, among others
