VIDEO: Retired NFL Player Does Ridealong on Chicago's South Side"

Former Chicago Bears star running back Matt Forte recently did a ridealong with Chicago police on the streets of South Side Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood.

The department posted a seven minute video to Facebook, chronicling Forte's experience during the day-shift ridealong.

"Being in the car, and being in pursuit, my heart was beating a little bit," Forte said in the Facebook video. "It shows you how seriously they take their job."

Forte—who played ten seasons in the NFL, most of them with the Chicago Bears—said that he now has a deeper appreciation for law enforcement officers and the job they do.

"The narrative, even to the young kids is that, all police officers are bad, and that's not the case, so we gotta find some common ground," Forte said.

Thank you Mr. Forte. You may be just one man, and hence one small step, but this is a step in the right direction. There are a lot of haters out there that are always going to hate, no matter what we do or how we do it, but Mr. Forte did what I've often wished more would do; see first-hand what we see, and maybe, just maybe, more people would understand that we are, for the most part, ordinary people trying to do a very difficult job, and ultimately go home to our families in one piece at the end of the day.

Great, thanks for taking the effort to understand what the truth is about 99% of cops Mr. Forte.I have a request please, tell these kids what you saw and did, they respect you since you "came from where they did".They love & respect you and will listen to what your opinion is.If more athletes did this instead of grandstanding by kneeling before our flag accomplishing nothing at all. They just sew discontent and division among us all and in the end doing nothing really worth while, just "playing showman".Kappernick and others should instead use the respectability that they earned through sports and use the "credit" that they have with our youth to really talk to them about the truth. Spend some time and $ focusing on the real problem and walking the walk not just talking & make a real impact. These young Black men are being gunned down by other young Black men and NOT being hunted by "evil cops". Next time ride with a "street cop" rather then a Command & a "boss" to get the real true scoop!
