According to a report by USA Today, following the rioting over the death of Freddie Gray, Baltimore police officers "in nearly every part of the city appeared to turn a blind eye to everyday violations" with the number of potential violations they proactively pursued dropping by almost half.

In the weeks after the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray — who fell into a coma after being transported in a police van, handcuffed but not seat-belted — the number of "on-view" incidents and street contacts reported by police plummeted.

"From 2014 to 2017, dispatch records show the number of suspected narcotics offenses police reported themselves dropped 30 percent," USA Today reported. "The number of people they reported seeing with outstanding warrants dropped by half. The number of field interviews — instances in which the police approach someone for questioning — dropped 70 percent."

"In all candor, officers are not as aggressive as they once were, pre-2015," Acting Police Commissioner Gary Tuggle told USA Today.

According to USA Today, Baltimore is "easily the deadliest large city in the United States."

Last year, 342 people were killed.

OK then @ 7/12/2018 3:11 PM

With the way the politicians tirned on the cops I am surprised any of them kept showing up for work.

Well, this IS what you get when you falsely accuse police on a routine basis, call them racists for no reason and paint them as the "bad guys". This IS what you get and what you deserve, so for the citizens of Baltimore, tough its your voting in the spineless politicians and putting up with this anti cop BS that has caused you to get what you deserve. I hope you are happy. This WILL take years to fix, if ever. Blame those responsible, your politicians, the press and the BLM types not the cops. Elections have consequences (as Obama stated) you voted for them then you live with them and what the do.

Good for you men and women officers of that department. Continue with what you are doing. Let the citizens of that city live with what they made you do. Stand strong and together. Im sure the thoughts of other city police, counties and state departments in this nation are with you too. I commend you all. Stay safe.

Anyone left who is proactive is brain dead or at the very least extremely naïve.
I personally don't have any sympathy for citizens who wanted to throw their cops under the bus and now it dawns on them that their crime rate is increasing. Many valued the rights of the scum bags and drug dealers so let them live with them.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; The second the average citizen realizes that a remmington 870 works a whole lot better than 911, anfor that matter better than our entier justice system, we're out of a job. People put their satey as somone elses responsability. They pay taxes for someone to make sure they're safe. The world is going to be a much different place if people decide to take that responsability back, and the thin blue line goes from first responders to report writers.

David R McConnaughey @ 7/13/2018 5:14 AM

Really? Golly gee, that's a tough one! I wonder why? You prosecute the police for doing what they're sworn to do, advocate the murder of police officers, paint officers as the bad guys, and accuse them of everything under the sun, and then they don't wanna do their jobs? Yeah, it's a real conundrum ain't it?

Skiman94 @ 7/13/2018 7:16 AM

I don't feel badly for any of the residents of Baltimore. They voted for a socialist gov't that appointed that idiot DA. I feel badly for the good men and women in blue that have no choice but to work in a city that doesn't support them. Remember folks, Texas is always hiring.

Grey Bear @ 7/13/2018 12:03 PM

Wow, who could've predicted an outcome like this, eh? Only the naive who choose to elect the progressive socialists. who then appoint their BLM-supporting prosecutor, who delights in trying to prosecute police officers for doing their job and trying to protect the citizens. Well citizens of Baltimore (and Chicago too for that matter)...ENJOY!
