Florida Police Train Citizens in Active Shooter Response

July 10, 2018  |

Training presented by a group of Florida law enforcement agencies is aimed at helping citizens survive in the event that an active killer walks into their business, church, community room, school or other gathering place.

According to the Naples Daily News, the active shooter training — available from agencies including Collier County Sheriff's Office, Lee County Sheriff's Office, Naples Police Department, Marco Island Police Department, and Fort Myers Police Department — is based on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's “Run, Hide, Fight” protocol.

“Training empowers people to think you’re not helpless. You do have options,” said Sergeant Neal Bohannon of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
