President Trump’s Supreme Court Short List Shrinks

The president may make an announcement about his pick as soon as Monday, some speculate.

President Trump reportedly interviewed six candidates to fill the Supreme Court seat of retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy. According to Fox News, Appeals court judges Brett Kavanaugh, Raymond Kethledge, Amy Coney Barrett, Amul Thapar, Joan Larsen, and Thomas Hardiman were the individuals included in the initial round of interviews.

"Multiple sources indicated Kavanaugh, Kethledge, and Barrett are currently the focus of attention," said Fox News.

The president may make an announcement about his pick as soon as Monday, some speculate.

The replacement of Kennedy — who was noted for his willingness to side with left-leaning jurists just as much as right-leaning justices— could move the court to a more solidly conservative body.

With pending cases on everything from immigration law to gun control to legalized marijuana, liberal advocacy groups are preparing for a major confirmation fight.
