A Joliet man used his infant son as a shield to fend off police responding to a domestic violence call on Wednesday.
The man — identified as 22-year-old Daniel Huerta — had allegedly been punching and kicking the baby's mother, according to the Herald-News.
Sergeant Darrell Gavin of the Joliet Police Department said in an email to the newspaper that upon arrival to the scene, officers were "confronted by Huerta and several family members, including Geraldina Ortiz and Maria Ortiz. Officers told Huerta that he was under arrest for domestic battery, at which time Huerta started to become aggressive with the officers, threatening them bodily harm and using the infant child as a shield to prevent from being placed into custody."
Huerta was arrested and booked into the Will County jail.
