Iowa Trooper Seriously Injured in Pursuit Crash

April 26, 2018  |

An Iowa State Patrol trooper was seriously injured when he crashed his patrol vehicle while chasing a vehicle linked to several shooting incidents in eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa.

The trooper, identified by the Iowa State Patrol as Dillon Malone, was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital. Police said they didn’t think the trooper’s injuries were life-threatening. Malone was listed in fair condition Thursday at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

William Stanfill, 28, and Jacqueline Streich, 37, both of Bellevue, have been charged in Iowa with attempted murder of an officer, felony assault, felon in possession of a firearm, eluding, reckless driving and several traffic violations. They were ordered held on $1 million bail.

Authorities said the pursuit got its origins in a road-rage shooting Tuesday afternoon in Bellevue, Omaha.com reports.

Eastern Nebraska is my birth state and I happen to know that the Nebraska Medical Center is next to none as far as critical care goes. A very speedy recovery to you Trooper Malone and may you return to your family and the Iowa State Patrol very soon!
