Assaults Against CBP Officers Up 45% in 2017

CBP recorded 847 assaults against its officers in the just-finished fiscal year, compared to 585 in the previous year, government data said.

The Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday reported a 45 percent increase in the number of assaults against its Customs and Border Protection officers from fiscal year 2016 to FY 2017.

CBP recorded 847 assaults against its officers in the just-finished fiscal year, compared to 585 in the previous year, government data said.

Despite the significant uptick in assaults, law enforcement officers are responding less frequently with lethal force, pursuant to instructions from CBP last year, the Washington Examiner reports.
