Six people were reported killed when a man drove a pickup truck down a lengthy stretch of a bike path next to the Hudson River in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon before he jumped out with what the NYPD called "two imitation firearms" and was shot by officers.

The attacker, in what was marked as a Home Depot truck, hit numerous people as he drove south on the bike path, officials said. At least 11 people were reported injured.

The driver was being treated at a nearby hospital. He also crashed into a school bus as he careened down as many as 20 city blocks near Stuyvesant High School, a senior law enforcement official said. It was unclear if anyone was on the bus.

A large section of the West Side Highway was closed for the investigation as hundreds of officers, including the bomb squad, responded to the scene. The truck came to a rest near Chambers and West Streets.

Police told the New York Times they are not looking for additional suspects.

My prayers go out to the victims and their families and friends, when a shooting happens some people want to have more gun laws and do away with firearms in this country, now we have people killing other people with trucks and cars, etc, now what do we outlaw motor vehicles, until we deal with the evil that are in people's minds and heart this will continue, this is the issue not the tool/and or weapon
Someone uses to kill folks, but the person that is doing the killing,it is amazing in the USA,we are fighting and each other over Republicans vs the Democratics, right wing vs left wing, fighting among races, how about coming together as human beings and Americans, that's my two cents

"Soldier" you couldn't have said it any better! Thank you for putting it out there even though many will NEVER listen. Guns don't kill people, PEOPLE do; trucks don't kill people, PEOPLE DO. My prayers go out for victims, family, friends, and for ALL THE REST OF US! I tell my friends, if on a bike I will ride against traffic. I want to see them coming if they start swerving (like drunk) or driving erratically, at least maybe I can get out of their way! But I will NOT ride with my back to drivers.
